“Keith Jarrett: The Cologne Concert” available for streaming (BBC Radio 4)

BBC Radio 4 recently broadcast a half-hour programme about “The Köln Concert”. For those who missed it, it is available for streaming from bbc.co.uk.

Paul Gambaccini presents the award-winning series that re-visits the occasions on which a classic live album was recorded. He hears from those who were there, on-stage, backstage and in the audience, to re-create the event for all of us who, each time we play the album, think: ‘If only I could have been there’.

Thanks to Cristiano for the information.

“The Köln Concert”, “Still Live”, and “Tribute” available as audiophile 180-gram vinyl pressings

I somehow missed this news: “The Köln Concert”, “Still Live”, and “Tribute” are available as audiophile 180-gram vinyl pressings since July 2010.

Keith Jarrett, The Köln Concert:

“The epochal double-album. Keith Jarrett’s 1975 “The Köln Concert” is one of the handful of jazz records that have changed the history of the music. The best-selling solo piano recording of all time, this endlessly inventive and highly lyrical recital reveals a master improviser creating forms in the moment. – Now available as 180g audiophile vinyl edition!”

Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock & Jack DeJohnette, Still Live:

“Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock, and Jack DeJohnette captured live in full creative flood in the Munich Philharmonie, stretching the standards to shape new music, as Jarrett originals segue into “You And The Night And The Music” and “Someday My Prince Will Come”.”

Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock & Jack DeJohnette, Tribute:

“Keith Jarrett returns to Köln – this time with his trio – to pay tribute to the great jazz improvisers through the medium of standards, renewing songs associated with John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Jim Hall, Lee Konitz, Sonny Rollins and more.”

“Jasmine” reviews

Here is a selection of reviews of “Jasmine”, released in May 2010:

NPR has a 14-minute interview with Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden available online:

If you know of an interesting review or interview not listed here, feel free to leave a message in the forum (see link below).

“Jasmine” available directly from ECM Records

This is probably not news to those of you who are familiar with ECM Records, but “Jasmine” can be ordered directly from ecmrecords.com. Excerpt from their FAQ:

“You are on the web site of ECM Records in Munich, the only address that can supply a fully comprehensive stock of currently available ECM, ECM New Series, Japo, Watt, XtraWatt, JCOA and Carmo titles.

To order, click on the “Order” link on the catalogue page of the CD you’d like to buy.

If you prefer, you can find “brick and mortar” retailers via our distributors worldwide. Visit their web sites or email them for information about local purchasing options.”

Thanks to Jon for reminding me this!

You can also find a list of “digital platforms and portals” in their FAQ. “Of these services, HDtracks and Qobuz offer ECM music in ‘lossless’ formats.” “Jasmine” is already available from Qobuz, for example (320 kbps MP3s, lossless 16-bit / 44.1 KHz, and high-definition 24-bit / 44.1 KHz).

Update (May 15, 2010). According to ECM Records USA, Amazon and iTunes are the “recommended” online stores to pre-order “Jasmine” in the US, not iclassics.com.
