Now that most (maybe all) of the Keith Jarrett Trio recordings are going to be available to stream, I want to recommend that folks listen (and I do mean listen) to Still Live. Perhaps it's the song selection, but I think this stands as one of the best performances of the trio. The opening of the opening track, My Funny Valentine, is completely gorgeous and will stop you doing whatever you might have been tempted to do and you will listen to the implacable timing and touch of KJ's piano. And throughout the tracks, the interplay of the trio is masterful. Of course there are wonderful solos scattered throughout the double album, but it is the weaving of the trio that is seductive and sublime and that separates this trio from any other bar none. Take a couple of hours and listen and tell me I'm wrong!
